Surprising Taipei

Visiting Taipei means getting the best of both worlds. Not in a creepy Hannah Montana sort of way, but in a city meets nature way. Enjoy the hectic city life, with the busy streets and crazy night markets. Or hop on a train for 30 minutes to find yourself in a beautiful postcard like scenery. These are our Instagram Hotspots in Taipei.

Quit playing games with my…

Queue the Backstreet Boys! But instead of playing games with our hearts, we’re just playing games. The people in Taiwan seem to LOVE arcades. You can literally find one on every corner. So, hop in, spend some cash and get the shot. Not keen on spending all your hard earned money on toys? We’ve got your back. Just ask the nice person at the register to borrow one of the huge plushies they have laying around. You might have to use hands and feet to get your point across, but chances are very high they’ll let you.

The Taipei 101

It’s the most famous buildings in all of Taipei. We’re talking about the Taipei 101. It used to be the tallest building in the world, in fact. But that title has been taken over by some other architectural masterpiece. You can spot the Taipei 101 from miles away, but there are two places in the city where you can see (and shoot) it the best. Wake up early to head to Elephant Mountain. It’s a steep hike, but don’t be surprised to find the elderly catching up. They love their exercise. The other location is a bit harder to find. But lucky you! Here’s the exact address, for you to enter into your Google Maps: No.2, Aly. 1, Ln. 253, Songren Rd., Xinyi Dist., Taipei City.

Go local to find the real hidden gems

Taipei is a city of contrasts. With the tall and modern buildings on the one hand, and the old and a bit neglected homes on the other. These stairs are hidden between apartment complexes and are pretty tricky to find. But you’re following this blog for a reason. Click on the first picture to see the exact location. Oh, and don’t forget to drop a heart once you’re there πŸ˜‰

PS. Don’t want to crush your dreams, but this pic needed quite some Lightroom work. The colours are definitely there in real life, but you might want to crank up the saturation a bit.

Experience Spirited Away in Jiufen

Tired of big city energy? Get to the trainstation to hop on the train to Jiufen. They say that this town was the inspiration for the fantasy film Spirited Away. And it sure looks the part. Bring an umbrella though, because rain is very common here. And bring some patience, because (unlike the photo shows) the streets are super crowded with Asian tourists. Oh, well, it’s part of the charm, I guess.

Enjoy the fresh air at Yehliu Geological ParkΒ

Taipei and Jiufen can get very crowded and overwhelming. Tired of the crowds? Visit Yehliu Geological Park. The main part of this park is still full of people, but as soon as you walk a bit further and climb some pretty steep stairs you’re fine. The views are magical! Look at those colours! Truly one of our favourite Instagram Hotspots in Taipei. (Well, just outside, still counts though.)
