Sunny Seychelles

When people first heard I was going to the Seychelles Islands, they looked at me a bit funny. Turns out, nobody actually knows where these islands are! Just to get you up to speed, here’s a little map of the area. As you can see, the islands are located on the east coast of Kenya and above Madagascar. But there’s something more important to know: this is paradise on earth. The Seychelles are made up of 115 islands, most of these have protected areas. Some are UNESCO nature reserves. Looking for the most unique flora and fauna? This is where you need to be. The Seychelles are most famous for the giant tortuouses and the Coco de Mer palmtrees. These are my favourite Instagram hotspots in the Seychelles.

Gems and Instagram hotspots in the Seychelles

Mahé Island

Mahé is the biggest island in the Seychelles and the easiest to reach by plane. It’s also closest to the other two main islands, Praslin and La Digue. This makes a combination of these three islands the best way to go for your first trip to paradisce. Get to and from these islands by taking a short ferry trip. Don’t like boats? You can choose to take a really short flight. But hey! Be sustainable and take that ferry!

Things to do on Mahé Island

  • Visit its beautiful beaches – duh. Some of my favourites: Anse Intendance, Petite Anse, Anse Royale Beach, Beau Vallon Beach.
  • Go on a boat trip / go sailing.
  • Visit the old town of Victoria.
  • Go on one of the amazing hiking trails.
  • Go shopping at Eden Island.
  • Watch some magical sunrises and/or sunsets.

Hidden gem on Mahé Island – Rock Pool

This is an amazing bar/restaurant where you can eat and drink all day. And as the name says, they also have a natural rock pool.

Praslin Island

To get to Praslin, take the ferry from Mahé Island. It will take you there in about 1 hour. On Praslin you’ll find a lot of tiny AirBnB’s, complete with private beach. Let me tell you, the experience is magical! Showering outside on the beach, underneath a million stars is something you’ll never forget.

Things to do on Praslin Island

    • Again: visit the beautiful beaches. My faves: Anse Volbert, Anse Lazio, Anse Consolation, Anse Georgette.
    • Visit Praslin National Park.
    • Go to the Vallée de Mai Reserve.
    • Visit Fond Ferdinand Nature Reserve.
    • And yet again: watch the sun rise and set.

La Digue Island

Let’s be real here, La Digue is going to be the highlight of your trip. It takes about 15 minutes to get from Praslin Island to La Digue Island by ferry. I used to think that I’ve seen my fair share of paradise, but this little island… It blew me away. The beaches were whiter than every beach I’ve ever been before and there almost no motorised vehicles! So, get yourself a bike, and go explore!

Things to do on La Digue Island

    • LOOK AROUND YOU.
    • Explore the island by bike.
    • Look out for the giant turtles.
    • Visit the beautiful beaches. These are a must visit: Spiagge di Anse Marron, Anse Coco Beach, Petit Anse, Grand Anse, Anse Fourmis.
    • Go snorkeling/diving.

Hidden gem on La Digue Island

Well. To be honest, this whole island is a hidden gem. But there is one palmtree on this island I really fell in love with. You can find it on Anse Fourmis.
