Costa Rican Jungles
Love the look of green in your feed? Don’t mind getting a litte wet (or dirty)? And don’t mind spending a bit more money on a trip? Than Costa Rica is the place to be. Pro tip: the rain season starts in May. That means a higher chance of rain, but also a lot less people. You know the drill, here some Instagram hotspots in Costa Rica.
Gems and Instagram Hotspots in Costa Rica
Living it up at El Mangroove Hotel
Usually, I’m a hostel kind of girl. But sometimes you need a little extra somethin’ somethin’. For us, that meant staying in a fancy hotel. It has a beautiful semi-infinity pool, a restaurant with delicious food (and great cocktails) and quite a few not-so-hidden Instagram gems. You can even rent a kayak. For free! And if you’re really lucky, you can spot some monkeys from your balcony.

Hostel life done right at Selina Hostels
Don’t feel like spending a fortune on a few nights in some fancy hotel? But you do appreciate some luxury? Get a prive double room in one of the Selina Hostels. We tried the ones in San Jose (good one!), Santa Teresa North (great for surfing – and has a pool) and in Manuel Antonio (absolute favourite). Also perfect for digital nomads, as the Wi-Fi is free and fast. 10/10 would recommend.

Speaking of Manuel Antonio…
Forget Cloud Forest in Monte Verde, Manual Antonio is where it’s at. This place has everything you need: beaches, nature, adorable animals, some sun and the best falafel place in the country – click here. Want to visit the National Park? Go early to beat the rain and the tourists. Private beach, anyone?
Set on getting a good sloth pic? Prepare to bring in the big guns. You’ll need a killer camera for that. I’m afraid your phone won’t be able to capture this majestic animal.

La Fortuna in one day
La Fortuna is this cute little town at the foot of an active vulcano. If you play your cards right you can get all the hikes and sights in in just one day. You’ll even have some time left to splash around in the pool (stay at Backpackers Hostel!). Start at the La Fortuna Waterfall and try to get there as soon as it opens. You’re are allowed to swim in the water in front, do so! This is also the best spot for photos. After that continue to do the Mirador El Silencio hike. It’s absolutely breathtaking and really quiet. Up until you reach the vulcano, though. That’s where the touring busses stop…

To end the day we decided to visit the natural hot springs river. This river is incredibly close to the Tabacon Hot Springs (see picture), but free. Guess what! We didn’t feel like spending 120 dollars to swim in some pretty (as in good looking) hot water. Can you blame us? Just type in “Free Natural Hot Springs River” into Google Maps and you’re good to go.

A quick stop at Río Celeste
Río Celeste is the perfect pit stop between two destinations. The water at this national park gets it’s distinctive blue/turquoise colour due to a physical phenomenon known as Mie scattering (thank you, Wikipedia). The Celese River is fed by two colourless rivers. One of these rivers contains a high acidity due to volcanic activity, the other contains a lot of aluminosilicate particles. Mix the two together, and boom! Science! Can get super crowded with tourists, so get there early. Keep an eye out for snakes, though.

Obviously, there are a lot (A LOT) more Instagram Hotspots in Costa Rica, but we visited the country during the rainy season. Would not recommend. Do recommend getting a good car though. You won’t regret it. Promise.
